Security Forces Intensify Statewide Crackdown in Manipur, Multiple Arrests and Major Drug Seizure Reported
Imphal— Security forces in Manipur have ramped up combing operations and intelligence-driven searches across the state in a renewed effort to combat extortion, insurgency, and drug trafficking. The intensified crackdown has led to multiple arrests, the seizure of contraband worth over ₹11 crore, and the recovery of stolen vehicles in the past three days.
On May 12, a key operative of the proscribed KCP (PWG) outfit, Narengbam Gobin Singh (38) of Wangjing Lamding Awang Leikai, was arrested from near the Dhaka Brick Field along NH-102 under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district. Singh was allegedly involved in a series of extortion and kidnapping activities. Authorities confiscated a mobile phone and two SIM cards during the arrest.
The same day, two more active members of the KCP (PWG)—Asheibam Gopen Singh (43) of Andro Makha Leikai and Laishram Sanamacha Leima (45) of Sinam Maning Leikai—were apprehended from a rented house in Mantripukhri Mercylane, Imphal East. Their arrest is believed to have dealt a blow to the outfit’s urban operations.
Also on May 12, two individuals linked to the mob attack on the RSS office in Haraorou in November 2024 were arrested from their native locality. The accused, Haobijam Khumarjit (45) and Haobijam Mangangcha Singh alias Naobi (41), both from Yumnam Khunou Awang Leikai, are currently under police interrogation.
In another significant development, a joint operation on May 10 near New Lamka under the Churachandpur Police Station led to the arrest of three persons—Minlun Valphei (34), David Nehtinthang (32), and Lunkholal (53). The trio was caught transporting 97 soap cases containing suspected No. 4 Heroin, weighing approximately 1.164 kilograms. The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of ₹11.05 crores. Security forces also impounded their vehicle and three mobile phones.
As part of sustained law enforcement drives, Manipur Police recovered six stolen or snatched vehicles on May 11 and removed tinted glasses from 78 vehicles during a special traffic enforcement operation.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to restoring peace and lawfulness across the state and have urged the public to extend full cooperation in the ongoing efforts to dismantle networks of crime and insurgency.
