Gaurav Gogoi Demands Clarity on India’s Response to US Role in Pakistan Affairs

New Delhi— Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has called on the Indian government to publicly clarify its stance regarding recent actions by the United States towards Pakistan, urging the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to lay out a comprehensive roadmap in response to a series of developments that he said could undermine India’s strategic interests.

In a strongly worded statement, Gogoi alleged that the U.S. administration had not only intervened to halt further Indian military strikes on Pakistani targets but also facilitated a $2.5 billion IMF bailout for Pakistan, promised enhanced trade relations with Islamabad, and reignited concerns by hyphenating India and Pakistan while internationalising the Kashmir issue.

“These developments raise serious questions about the trajectory of India’s foreign policy,” Gogoi said, as he pressed the MEA to clearly articulate how it intends to navigate the evolving diplomatic equation with Washington.

Gogoi had earlier voiced strong reservations over the IMF aid package, warning that the funds must not end up supporting terrorist infrastructure. He welcomed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan but expressed concern over the long-term implications of international mediation on India’s sovereign decision-making.

“I am grateful to the Indian armed forces for their stellar and professional role in defending India’s territory and sovereignty. The men and women made us proud,” he said, while offering prayers for the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the cross-border firing incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Poonch sector.

Reflecting on recent national unity in the face of conflict, Gogoi added, “Pakistan wanted to spread the two-nation theory in India, but Indians of all religions, ethnicities, and linguistic backgrounds rejected it and swore by the secularism in our Constitution. Over the last few days, Indians stood as one, united under our Tiranga, and everyone supported the Prime Minister and his government.”

Gogoi concluded his remarks with a note of caution, stating, “The US, through the IMF, has overseen the funding of $2.5 billion into the Pakistani economy and has brokered an immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan. I only hope they can ensure that this aid is not funnelled into terror groups.”

His statements have sparked renewed debate over India’s strategic autonomy and the role of global powers in regional security matters.
