Martyred BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham Honoured in Imphal
Imphal: Imphal bore witness to a poignant homecoming today as the mortal remains of Constable (General Duty) Deepak Chingakham were brought to his native land.
The 25-year-old braveheart of the 7th Battalion, Border Security Force (BSF), made the ultimate sacrifice on May 10 at the Kharkhola Border Outpost (BOP), succumbing to injuries sustained in a drone attack perpetrated from across the border by Pakistan.
A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was organized at Bir Tikendrajit Park, where dignitaries of the state joined top officials and Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey in paying their deepest respects to the fallen soldier. The atmosphere was heavy with grief as a ceremonial salute echoed through the park, a tribute to Constable Chingakham’s supreme act of valor in the service of the nation.
Constable Chingakham, a resident of Yairipok Yambem in the Imphal East district, leaves behind a family enveloped in sorrow and a state that stands both proud and heartbroken by the loss of their son. His dedication to safeguarding the nation’s frontiers culminated in this tragic incident.
A senior BSF official lauded the martyred constable’s bravery, stating, “Deepak was a brave jawan, and he fought bravely. In the last 3-4 days amid the Indo-Pak escalation, Deepak played a key role in destroying a Pakistani post. However, he succumbed to his injuries when a Pakistani drone came and fell near him.” The official further assured that the “BSF family will stand behind his family for any assistance.”
State officials present at the ceremony conveyed their deepest condolences and reiterated the unwavering support of the state government to the grieving family. They also reaffirmed their solidarity with the armed forces who tirelessly guard the nation’s borders, acknowledging the sacrifices made to ensure the safety and security of the country.
