Arunachal: Changlang Administration Issues Security Advisory Amid Militant Threat

Itanagar: In the wake of intelligence suggesting a potential backlash from underground groups, the Changlang district administration has taken proactive measures to safeguard its populace. A public advisory issued by the Deputy Commissioner outlines stringent security protocols aimed at averting any untoward incidents.

This directive follows closely after the neutralization of two NSCN (K-YA) cadres in the neighboring Longding district on April 27th, prompting concerns of retaliatory actions within the region.

The advisory specifically addresses the need to distinguish civilians from armed personnel. To this end, a strict prohibition has been imposed on the wearing of combat or camouflage clothing by non-uniformed individuals.

This restriction applies particularly to those engaged in hunting or other outdoor activities, with exemptions granted solely to Security Forces and Police personnel actively performing their duties. The administration underscores the importance of this measure in preventing misidentification and ensuring the smooth conduct of security operations.

Furthermore, the advisory places restrictions on night-time movement in vulnerable areas. Between the hours of 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM, civilian movement within jungle or forested areas is prohibited. Recognizing the need for essential travel, the directive stipulates that any emergency movement during these restricted hours must receive prior authorization from the local police station or administrative officer. This measure aims to minimize the risk of accidental encounters and ensure the safety of both civilians and security personnel operating in the area.

Authorities have made it clear that any violation of these directives will be dealt with according to the law. The administration has appealed to the residents of Changlang to fully cooperate with these measures, emphasizing that public compliance is crucial in maintaining peace and supporting the ongoing efforts to ensure security within the district. The order remains in force until further notice, as the security situation continues to be closely monitored.
