Security Forces Net Multiple Arrests in Manipur Crackdown on Illegal Activities
Imphal, Manipur – In a concerted effort to maintain peace and security amidst ongoing tensions, Manipur’s security forces have apprehended several individuals involved in illegal arms dealing, extortion, and drug trafficking over the past 24 hours. The operations, conducted across various districts, underscore the commitment of law enforcement agencies to curb criminal activities and ensure the safety of the state.
A significant breakthrough was achieved in Imphal East District’s Puhkhao Ahallup Makha Leikai, where a joint operation led to the arrest of three individuals identified as Naorem Naocha Meitei alias Chinglakpa (38), Leishangthem Inaoton Singh alias Aphao (23), and Ayekpam Boiboy Meitei alias Ishanta Meitei (26). Among those arrested was an active cadre belonging to the UNLF (Pambei) faction. The operation resulted in the seizure of a sophisticated INSAS rifle along with a magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and three mobile phones. Preliminary investigations suggest that the confiscated weapons were intended for illicit sale in the black market, with an estimated value of approximately Rs. 3.5 lakh.
Simultaneously, operations targeting insurgent-led extortion rackets yielded further success. In Thoubal District, Khundongbam Prithibiraj Meitei alias Sathiba (23), identified as a member of the KCP (PWG), was taken into custody. He is alleged to have been involved in extorting local businesses. Authorities recovered a hand grenade, a mobile phone, and a two-wheeler from his possession. Further arrests in connection with extortion activities include Salam Karan Singh alias Ningthoulakpa (21) of KCP (MFL), and Khangembam Apui Meitei Nongpoknganba (26) and Moirangthem Alex Meitei (23), both associated with PREPAK. These individuals were reportedly involved in threatening and extorting individuals across different districts of the state.
In a determined push against drug trafficking, Manipur Police made a substantial seizure in Churachandpur District, arresting Mungsanglian alias David (33) with a significant quantity of suspected brown sugar. The contraband was concealed in 112 soap cases, weighing a total of 1,267 grams. In a separate operation in Thoubal District, a woman identified as Fatima (44) was apprehended for possessing 51 bottles of a banned cough syrup containing Codeine Phosphate and Tripolidine HCl, marketed under the brand name TUSSREX-TR.
Alongside these targeted operations, efforts to recover stolen vehicles continued, resulting in the retrieval of six vehicles during a special drive. To further enhance security and facilitate the smooth movement of essential goods, authorities have established a network of 110 checkpoints across vulnerable areas throughout the state.
In light of the ongoing situation, law enforcement agencies have issued a strong advisory urging the public to exercise caution and refrain from believing or spreading rumours and manipulated content circulating on social media platforms. The authorities have reiterated that strict legal action will be initiated against anyone found disseminating false information, which could potentially exacerbate tensions and create further instability.
