Assam: Tragedy Strikes as Truck Plunges Off Kaliabhomora Bridge into Brahmaputra

Guwahati: A pall of sorrow has descended upon Sonitpur district in Assam following a devastating incident on the Kaliabhomora bridge. On Thursday, a truck en route from Tezpur to Kaliabor in the neighboring Nagaon district veered off the arterial bridge and plunged into the mighty Brahmaputra River, claiming at least one life.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the vehicle careened through the right-side railing of the bridge before succumbing to the river’s depths. “It seems the truck lost control and fell into the river after breaking the railing on the right side,” confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police Madhurima Das, highlighting the initial assessment of the tragic event.

Swift action followed as passersby alerted the authorities, prompting an immediate mobilization of rescue forces. “We got intimation from the passersby and immediately called NDRF and SDRF personnel,” added ASP Das, underscoring the rapid response to the unfolding crisis.

Amidst the turbulent waters, rescue teams achieved the grim task of recovering one body from the submerged wreckage of the truck. However, the operation remains active and fraught with uncertainty as authorities work tirelessly to ascertain if additional individuals were involved in the accident. The focus remains on the crucial task of locating and recovering any potential remaining victims.

As the community grapples with the shock of this tragedy, the cause of the devastating accident remains shrouded in mystery. Authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the truck veering off the bridge, seeking to provide answers and prevent similar incidents in the future.
