Assam: Fugitive Arrested Near Bhutan Border in Kaliabor Rape Case

In a significant development, the Assam Police today apprehended Sanju Biswas from the vicinity of the Bhutan border in Tamulpur. Biswas was wanted in connection with the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in Kaliabor.

Following the distressing incident, Biswas reportedly went into hiding, seeking refuge in the remote area near the international border. However, the Uluwani police, persistent in their pursuit of justice, successfully tracked and apprehended the accused.

The Uluwani police have formally charged Sanju Biswas under the stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, registering the case as Case No. 25/2025. This arrest marks a crucial step forward in the ongoing legal proceedings.

The gravity of such offenses is underscored by recent research, which poignantly states, “At that age, abuse and exploitation can cause profound damage that can last a lifetime. It will irrevocably shape how a child grows to see both the world and themselves. They will see the world as forever hostile and threatening. They will cling to any security or affection, no matter how bad it is for them or how malevolent the source—a vulnerability that many predators exploit in the first place.” This highlights the enduring trauma inflicted upon young victims of such heinous crimes.
