Gomati Dairy Expands, Aiming for Tripura’s Self-Sufficiency in Milk Production

Agartala: Tripura’s dairy sector received a significant boost today with the inauguration of the second unit of the Gomati Dairy. Chief Minister Manik Saha presided over the ceremony in the Bamutiya Assembly Constituency, marking the expansion of the largest dairy facility in Northeast India. The newly added unit boasts a processing capacity of approximately 40,000 liters, a substantial increase expected to propel the state towards self-reliance in milk and dairy product production.

The auspicious event witnessed the presence of prominent national figures, including Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh), and Union Minister of State SP Singh Baghel. Their attendance underscored the national significance of the project in bolstering the dairy industry and the rural economy.

Chief Minister Saha, addressing the gathering, reiterated the state government’s unwavering commitment to fostering animal husbandry and dairy farming as viable and sustainable income sources, particularly for the rural populace. He expressed optimism that the expanded Gomati Dairy would generate new employment avenues and make a considerable contribution to Tripura’s overall economic progress.

The Gomati Dairy’s expansion aligns seamlessly with the overarching vision of both the central and state governments to double farmers’ income and ensure robust food security through enhanced domestic dairy production. This initiative is anticipated to empower local farmers and dairy producers, strengthening the rural economy from the grassroots level.
