Biden Diagnosed with Aggressive Prostate Cancer, Bone Metastasis Confirmed

International: Former U.S. President Joe Biden, 82, has received a diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, as confirmed by his office in a formal statement released Sunday. The discovery followed evaluations prompted by reported urinary symptoms, revealing a prostate nodule.

Medical professionals have characterized the cancer as an aggressive form but have noted its hormone-sensitive nature, suggesting that treatment interventions could still be effective. “This represents a more aggressive form of the disease, but it appears to be hormone-sensitive, allowing for effective disease management. The President and his family are currently reviewing treatment options with his medical team,” the statement disclosed.

Biden’s cancer has been classified with a Gleason score of 9, corresponding to Grade Group 5, indicating a high degree of aggressiveness. The American Cancer Society designates Grade 5 as the most severe, describing cells that appear “very abnormal” under microscopic examination. The Gleason scale, ranging from 6 to 10, serves as a predictive tool for the aggressiveness and prognosis of prostate cancer.

The diagnosis carries significant emotional weight, given the former President’s personal history. His son, Beau Biden, succumbed to brain cancer in 2015, a loss that profoundly affected Biden’s life and public persona.

Prostate cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in the United States. The American Cancer Society reports that one in eight men will receive a diagnosis during their lifetime. While often treatable when detected early, it remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men in the country.

The Biden family is reportedly exploring various treatment avenues, including hormone therapy and potential participation in clinical trials, although no final decisions have been made public.
