Assam: Headmaster’s Mysterious Disappearance Throws Dargarbond Primary School Into Crisis
Guwahati: A pall of uncertainty looms over 175 No. Dargarbond Primary School in Sribhumi district’s Ramkrishnanagar education block, as Headmaster Pikulu Das has been missing since April 4, leaving the institution in a state of academic disarray. With over 150 students on the rolls and only two teachers left to manage all subjects and activities, parents and school authorities are raising the alarm over the crumbling quality of education.
According to members of the school management committee, the prolonged absence of the headmaster has severely hampered the daily functioning of the school. Teachers are overwhelmed, and students are left without proper instruction or oversight. The vacuum in leadership has not only affected academic delivery but also disrupted routine administrative processes.
Adding to the turmoil is a developing controversy involving Das, who is accused of irregularly issuing transfer certificates to 15–16 students from private schools to enable their enrollment at Dargarbond Primary. However, in the absence of DISE codes and PEN numbers—critical identifiers in the state education system—those students now find themselves in limbo, unable to complete their admission process in any recognised institution.
Sources close to the matter suggest that a group of concerned parents confronted Das about these alleged discrepancies just days before his disappearance. Since then, no contact has been made, and his whereabouts remain unknown. The lack of clarity has triggered widespread anxiety among the affected families.
Despite repeated appeals to local education officials, authorities have reportedly failed to respond, deepening frustration within the community. Parents and the school management committee are now urging the district administration to step in, investigate the matter, and implement corrective measures to safeguard the future of the students and restore normalcy to the school.
