Historic Verdict: 23 Individuals Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for 2012 Atrocity in Charaideo

Guwahati: In a landmark judgment, a judicial court in Charaideo district of Assam has handed down life sentences to 23 individuals today in a case that dates back to 2012.

On February 9, 2012, Phuleshwari Haloa, a woman from Jalha village in Charaideo district, was brutally tortured and set ablaze by a group of frenzied men, resulting in her tragic death

 After a prolonged trial spanning 13 years, the court has finally brought justice to the victim’s family.

The court’s verdict, delivered after the final hearing, sentenced 23 individuals to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each. Additionally, the court has decreed a compensation of Rs 8 lakh to be paid to the victim’s family.

The case began with an FIR lodged by the victim’s son at Sonari police station, leading to the detention of 35 people. The court’s thorough investigation and trial ultimately proved the involvement of 23 individuals in the heinous crime.

The verdict brings closure to a painful chapter in the lives of the victim’s family, providing them with a sense of justice and solace. The court’s decision serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for such atrocities.
