Sikkim: ASGEA Gears Up for Crucial Elections with New Adhoc Committee Formation

Gangtok: The All Sikkim Group C and Group D Employees Association (ASGEA) is moving full steam ahead with preparations for its upcoming Central Executive Committee elections. A pivotal meeting held on Saturday at the Employees Guest House near Hospital Dara saw representatives from various sister associations converge under the guidance of former ASGEA Chairman, Mr. Narshing Rai, to lay the groundwork for a fair and transparent electoral process.

The gathering brought together key figures from the *Sikkim Teachers Association, NMOPS State Sikkim, Ministerial and Subordinate Association, Sikkim Press Association, OFOJ Association, and the Accounts Subordinate Association, all integral partners to ASGEA in advocating for government employees in Group C and D. The primary agenda was to discuss the formation of an Adhoc Committee tasked with overseeing the elections. There was unanimous agreement among attendees that such a committee is essential for a smooth and democratic transition.

Several critical decisions emerged from the meeting. First and foremost, the need for a temporary Adhoc Committee to manage the election process was emphasized, aiming to ensure fairness and prevent any potential disputes. To staff this committee, each sister association will hold internal meetings to nominate a representative. These chosen individuals will then form the core of the new Adhoc Committee. All associations are expected to submit the names of their nominated representatives at the next meeting, scheduled for May 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM.

The Adhoc Committee will be formally constituted at this upcoming meeting, with portfolios and responsibilities to be distributed among its members on the same day. In a move to ensure continuity and transparency, members from the existing Adhoc Executive Committee will also be invited to join the next meeting, fostering cooperation between past and present leadership. The atmosphere throughout the meeting was notably positive and unified, with all members reaffirming their commitment to democratic principles, transparency, and solidarity among Sikkim’s government employees. The consensus was clear: strong and fair leadership is paramount for the welfare of Group C and D employees, and the formation of this Adhoc Committee marks a significant step in that direction.
