Arunachal: Massive Tiranga Yatra in Tawang Unites Citizens in Tribute to Armed Forces
Itanagar: Thousands gathered in the serene highlands of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, on Tuesday to participate in a powerful Tiranga Yatra, marching in unison from the Giant Buddha statue to the Tawang War Memorial in a deeply symbolic expression of solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces.
The event, marked by emotion and patriotism, showcased a rare and heartening unity across social, religious, and political lines.
Spearheaded by National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from Higher Secondary School, Jang, the yatra brought together a remarkable mix of participants — monks, nuns, students, local civilians, and members from various political parties — all marching under the tricolour with pride and reverence. The resounding beats of the NCC band led the way, lending a solemn yet uplifting rhythm to the event.
The culmination at the Tawang War Memorial saw an outpouring of patriotic fervour, with cultural performances paying tribute to the nation’s defenders. Students of Manjushree Vidyapeeth presented a heartfelt dance, while local artists Vishal and Rinchin Zomba moved the crowd with powerful patriotic songs, stirring both pride and remembrance.
Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering, addressing the gathering, lauded the Indian armed forces for their bravery and sacrifice. He made a poignant reference to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, honouring the lives lost and hailing the Indian military’s resolute response. Tsering also took a moment to commend all political factions for uniting in support of the nation, putting aside differences for a greater cause.
In a particularly moving acknowledgment, Tsering extended gratitude to the Abbot of Sera Je Jamyang Choekorling Monastery, Dhobley Rinpoche, and the many monks and nuns who joined the yatra. Their presence underscored the profound spiritual and cultural solidarity that Tawang shares with the armed forces.
“This Tiranga Yatra is more than a symbolic gesture. It reflects our emotional bond with the armed forces and reaffirms our shared responsibility in safeguarding the nation,” said Tsering. He emphasised that Tawang’s tradition of civil-military harmony serves as a model for the rest of the country.
As a final mark of respect, Tsering presented traditional swords and ceremonial scarves to senior military officials — a gesture steeped in local custom and national pride. The Tiranga Yatra not only honoured the soldiers’ sacrifices but also reinforced Tawang’s unwavering commitment to India’s unity, sovereignty, and spirit.
