Phangnon Konyak Joins Nagaland University Court

Kohima: S. Phangnon Konyak, Nagaland’s representative in the Rajya Sabha, has been appointed to the Court of Nagaland University. The nomination, made by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, places Konyak in a key role to shape the future of the state’s leading educational body.

Konyak’s new position grants her direct influence over policy decisions and the academic trajectory of the university. She has expressed her intention to collaborate closely with the university administration, focusing on a comprehensive review of current policies and programmes, all within the existing framework of the Nagaland University Act of 1989.

Upon accepting the responsibility, Konyak articulated a clear objective: to significantly boost Nagaland University’s national prominence. She acknowledged the university’s history of producing distinguished alumni, including senior bureaucrats, elected officials, and professionals in diverse fields. Her focus will be on building upon this foundation, aiming to enhance educational quality and implement forward-thinking policies through active engagement with all stakeholders.

This appointment arrives at a pivotal moment for regional universities, which are increasingly under pressure to compete with more established national institutions. As the highest decision-making body for Nagaland University, the Court stands to gain valuable parliamentary insight as it strategizes for the institution’s future development.
