Assam: Silchar Police Nabs Drug Peddler, Heroin Worth Crores Seized
Silchar: In a significant blow to the illicit drug trade, Assam Police successfully apprehended a drug peddler and confiscated 622 grams of heroin, with an estimated street value of Rs 3.11 crore, during an intelligence-driven operation near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) here.
The successful sting operation was lauded by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took to social media to commend the police action and reiterate his government’s unwavering dedication to eradicating drug trafficking from the state. “We will destroy drugs; not let drugs destroy you,” Sarma affirmed, underscoring the administration’s stringent, zero-tolerance stance against narcotics.
This latest arrest is a testament to Assam’s heightened anti-drug campaign, which has seen a surge in seizures and arrests across the state in recent months. Law enforcement agencies have been diligently executing targeted operations, leveraging critical intelligence to dismantle established drug trafficking networks.
The ISBT area in Silchar has emerged as a critical transit hub for drug peddlers, owing to its strategic geographical position and constant flow of traffic. Authorities have consequently intensified surveillance and security checks in the vicinity, acting on intelligence reports indicating suspicious activities and aiming to disrupt the flow of illegal substances.
