Assam: ATM Fraudster Netted in Morigaon, Police Recover Cache of Cards and Cash

Guwahati: A significant breakthrough in the fight against financial fraud has come to light with the arrest of a 37-year-old woman, Musst. Kulsuma Begum, in a joint operation spearheaded by the Morigaon and Moirabari police.

The accused, a resident of Tatikota Pothar (Ward No. 2) under Moirabari Police Station, was apprehended following a targeted raid.

During a thorough search of her residence, law enforcement officials unearthed a substantial collection of incriminating evidence. The haul included 24 ATM cards, believed to have been illicitly swapped from unsuspecting individuals, along with a sum of Rs 28,400 in cash. Authorities suspect Begum’s involvement in a string of ATM card lifting and duping incidents, primarily targeting vulnerable individuals in the region’s rural and semi-urban areas.

This operation marks a crucial step in the ongoing crackdown on financial malpractices plaguing the area. The police have issued a strong advisory to the public, urging heightened vigilance while performing ATM transactions and prompt reporting of any suspicious behaviour to prevent falling prey to such fraudulent schemes.
