Tipra Motha Chief Calls for Hunt for Illegal Immigrants in Tripura
Agartala: Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the fiery founder of the Tipra Motha Party, on Monday issued a clarion call to his party’s cadre, instructing MLAs, Members of District Councils, and grassroots workers to actively identify illegal immigrants residing in Tripura. The directive comes with a clear mandate to expose those who have allegedly procured official documents through illicit means and are availing benefits meant for genuine citizens.
Taking to Facebook, Pradyot Kishore underscored the gravity of the situation, citing statements from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Supreme Court of India, both of whom, he asserted, have declared that illegal immigrants have no right to reside in India.
“I have been vocal about this for the past decade. I even pursued an NRC case with the apex court. Our stance has been consistent,” Pradyot stated emphatically. He further elaborated on the current geopolitical climate, noting, “Today, as Bangladesh propagates animosity towards India, the Indian government is retaliating. But the indigenous populace was keenly aware of this issue many years ago. Currently, not only Rohingyas, but Bangladeshis are infiltrating Tripura, acquiring Voter ID cards, Ration Cards, and by the 2028 elections, they will determine who becomes MLAs, MPs, or even the Chief Minister. This is a future we unequivocally reject.”
In light of these concerns, Pradyot revealed that he has directed all his MLAs, MDCs, and party workers to engage with District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and Block Development Officers to ascertain the identities of those acquiring Ration Cards and Aadhaar Cards while residing illegally.
“The day they gain voting rights in India, they will jeopardise the future of our progeny,” he warned. “This is not the moment for internal strife; this is the opportune time to unite and halt the influx of all illegal Bangladeshis. They possess no right to remain here. We must oppose them. We must prevent illegal immigrants from obtaining Voter and Ration Cards. All benefits must accrue to genuine Indian citizens,” he concluded, urging collective action.
