Narco-Trafficking Ring Busted: Assam’s BJP Sticker VIP Car Seized with Rs 18 Lakh Heroin
Guwahati: Samaguri Police have struck a significant blow against the illicit drug trade, intercepting a substantial heroin consignment valued at nearly Rs 18 lakh and apprehending a key supplier. The successful anti-narcotics operation unfolded along National Highway 127 in South Bhaleuguri, marking a major win for law enforcement in their ongoing battle against narcotics.
Acting on credible intelligence, police officials flagged down a suspicious VIP-marked vehicle. The vehicle, prominently displaying BJP stickers and bearing registration number AS 12 M 6587, was reportedly ferrying heroin from Hojai to Tezpur. A meticulous search of the vehicle yielded 30 soap cases, meticulously packed with the illicit substance.
The individual taken into custody has been identified as Nazrul Islam, who is believed to be a pivotal figure in the smuggling of this narcotics consignment. Police sources peg the estimated market value of the seized heroin at approximately Rs 18 lakh, underscoring the magnitude of this seizure.
This interception highlights a worrying trend of misusing political and VIP vehicle identifiers to facilitate the smuggling of illegal substances, raising serious concerns for authorities. It also represents a crucial step in disrupting the flow of narcotics along Assam’s vital highway routes. Police have confirmed that comprehensive investigations are currently underway to dismantle the wider network involved in this sophisticated smuggling operation.
