Manipur Security Forces Seize 2.4kg of Suspected Brown Sugar in Major Drug Bust

Imphal: In a significant operation, Manipur’s security forces have confiscated approximately 2.4 kilograms of suspected brown sugar, a crude form of heroin, during a routine vehicle check on Tuesday. The seizure was made at Biisho bridge under Maram Police Station in Senapati District, where a Bolero pickup truck was intercepted.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers found 220 soap cases containing the suspected narcotic substance cleverly concealed within the vehicle’s body panels. Two individuals, the driver and passenger, were apprehended in connection with the seizure.

The detained individuals have been identified as Mayarngam Khokyar, 45, from Kalhang village in Ukhrul District, and Nima Sherpa, 34, from Sadim Naga village in Senapati District. The substantial quantity of brown sugar seized suggests that it was likely intended for distribution rather than personal use. Further investigation is underway to determine the origin and intended destination of the contraband, as well as to identify potential accomplices in the trafficking operation.

The seizure highlights the growing concern over brown sugar addiction in the northeastern states, which has contributed to increasing addiction rates and associated criminal activities. The authorities remain committed to disrupting drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
