The morning in Gangtok had begun with an expectant buzz. Preparations at Paljor Stadium were in full swing, with a large crowd assembling from early hours, eager to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister. Security arrangements were beefed up, and the stadium was decked out for the golden jubilee celebrations. PM Modi was slated to land at Libing Helipad around 9:45 AM, but the persistent downpour rendered air travel impossible, forcing a last-minute change of plans.
Despite the geographical distance, PM Modi’s presence was felt as he addressed the people of Sikkim via video conferencing. During his virtual address, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and inaugurated several vital development projects. While specific details of these projects were not immediately released, officials indicated that they encompass crucial works in sectors like road connectivity, healthcare, and education, all aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the Sikkimese people and bolstering the state’s infrastructure.
Highlighting Sikkim’s remarkable journey over the past five decades, PM Modi lauded the state’s achievements since becoming the 22nd state of India in 1975. He specifically praised Sikkim’s pioneering efforts in organic farming, its burgeoning tourism sector, advancements in education, and overall infrastructure development. He presented Sikkim as a shining example of how smaller states can achieve significant milestones through meticulous planning and robust citizen participation.
The Prime Minister also commended the people of Sikkim for their profound dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable development practices. He specifically cited Sikkim’s organic farming model as an inspiration for the entire nation, showcasing its potential as a blueprint for eco-conscious growth.
