Security Forces Crack Down on Extortion Rackets, Arrest Four CKMA Cadres in Manipur

Imphal — Security forces in Manipur have ramped up coordinated intelligence-based operations across vulnerable and fringe areas in a decisive move to dismantle extortion networks and armed outfits. The latest crackdown resulted in the arrest of four cadres belonging to the Chin Kuki Mizo Army (CKMA), a non-SoO (Suspension of Operations) group, along with the seizure of arms and incriminating materials.

On June 3, a joint team apprehended the four individuals from the vicinity of Kerith village in Rengkai under Churachandpur police station. The arrested cadres — identified as Samuel Kamninhao, Hegun Seimingun, Thangminhou Touthang, and Mangkhohao Touthang — were allegedly involved in the illegal trade of arms and ammunition, extortion, and threatening civilians at gunpoint. Security forces recovered two live 9 mm rounds and three mobile phones from their possession.

Parallel combing operations in the Wangoo Naral Samtak hill region of Kakching district led to the unearthing of a substantial arms cache, including INSAS and SBBL rifles, mortars, grenades, IEDs, tactical gear, and radio communication equipment. Another raid in Rashidpur, under the jurisdiction of Jiribam Police Station, yielded additional weapons, ammunition of various calibres, combat gear, and protective equipment.

Amidst heightened alertness, police have established 111 checkpoints across hill and valley districts, bolstering state-wide vigilance. While no arrests were made at these Nakas, their presence underscores a renewed security strategy aimed at curbing the activities of extortion groups and armed elements.

The intensified efforts signal a focused campaign by Manipur’s security forces to restore civilian confidence and dismantle underground networks that have long posed threats to law and order in the region.
