Sikkim Embraces Agricultural Modernisation with ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’

Linkey Parakha, Sikkim: The spirit of agricultural transformation swept through GPK Linkey Parakha in Sikkim’s 21-Gnathang Machong Constituency on June 3, as the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ campaign took centre stage. This nationwide initiative, dedicated to propelling Indian agriculture into a new era of science, sustainability, and farmer empowerment, saw a robust turnout and active participation from the local farming community.

The comprehensive programme was a collaborative effort, meticulously organised by ICAR-KVK East Sikkim in conjunction with the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), and Fisheries, all under the aegis of the Government of Sikkim. The primary focus of the day’s events was to enlighten farmers from the Linkey Parakha and Latuk Barapathing GPUs, equipping them with vital knowledge on contemporary, sustainable agricultural techniques and providing access to scientific insights and government schemes designed to foster their growth.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of MLA-cum-Advisor, Pamin Lepcha, who attended as the Chief Guest, underscoring the government’s commitment to agricultural progress. Lending further weight to the occasion were Zilla Adhakshya, Laden Lhamu Bhutia, and a contingent of enthusiastic panchayat members, signifying strong local leadership support.

A distinguished panel of agricultural experts and key officials enriched the proceedings with their invaluable contributions. Dr. Pratap Subba, the Senior Scientist & Head of ICAR-KVK East Sikkim, delivered insightful remarks, emphasizing the critical role of knowledge dissemination and innovative approaches in bolstering the agricultural sector. He was joined by Dr. Anjala Pradhan, Additional Director, AH&VS Department; Hissey Chedey Bhutia, Deputy Director, Horticulture; Gauri Mukhiya, Assistant Director, Fisheries; and Dr. Nikhila Vaagdevi, Scientist from ICAR-NRC Orchids, all sharing their expertise.

Further bolstering the collective effort were Dr. Prakash Sharma, Dr. J.K. Singh, Madam Menuka Rai (HDO), Tashi Gyamtso Bhutia (ADO), and Dr. Kamal Rai (Veterinary Officer). Their presence, alongside a dedicated team of field officers and support staff from various departments, highlighted a unified commitment towards nurturing a resilient and progressively-minded agricultural sector in Sikkim.
