Solar Scheme Shines Bright in Tripura, Thousands Embrace Green Energy

Agartala: The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has garnered an “overwhelming response” from electricity consumers across Tripura, announced Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday. The scheme, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to empower households to generate their own electricity through solar power, thereby slashing power bills and even providing an avenue for additional income by feeding surplus energy back into the grid.

Speaking at an awareness camp held in Belonia subdivision of South Tripura district, Minister Nath underscored the Prime Minister’s vision for renewable energy, particularly solar power, as a cornerstone of sustainable development. He emphasised how the initiative makes modern life, unimaginable without electricity, more eco-friendly and affordable. The scheme, he noted, is particularly beneficial for economically weaker sections, allowing them to significantly reduce or even eliminate their electricity expenditure.

Minister Nath confirmed that the scheme is being actively rolled out across Tripura, with numerous awareness camps being organised at the subdivision level to reach a wider audience. He proudly stated that many households have already embraced the initiative, installing solar plants and witnessing their electricity bills plummet to zero. Some, he added, have even begun to earn by supplying excess power to the state grid, transforming a household expense into a potential income stream.

Highlighting the environmental benefits, the Minister informed that domestic consumers are eligible to install solar systems of up to 10 kilowatts under the scheme. He drew a clear distinction between environmentally sustainable solar power and conventional energy sources like natural gas, urging all eligible citizens to seize this golden opportunity to contribute to a greener future while enjoying significant financial advantages.
