Tripura: Agartala Dreams of Seaplane Link for Tourism Boost
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has made a direct appeal to the Centre, pushing for the introduction of seaplane services to connect the picturesque Narikel Kunja island resort nestled in Dumboor lake, located in the Dhalai district.
The proposal was tabled before Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia during the recent second meeting of the High-Level Task Force on North East tourism, chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
Saha underscored the critical need for a comprehensive strategic framework to draw both national and international investments into the Northeastern states, pinpointing high-potential areas and projects. This move comes as Tripura’s tourism sector looks to unlock new avenues for growth and connectivity.
Earlier, the state’s Tourism Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, had already initiated discussions on April 19 with a private airline company to explore the viability of seaplane services. Following that meeting at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Chowdhury articulated the state government’s focused efforts, spearheaded by the transport and tourism departments, to bring this innovative project to fruition.
The proposed seaplane services are envisioned to facilitate quicker and more visually stunning journeys to key aquatic tourism hotspots such as Narikel Kunj at Dumboor Lake and Chobimura, among other scenic locales. Chowdhury highlighted seaplane tourism as a “fascinating and innovative concept” with the potential to open up new vistas for tourism across Tripura’s extensive aquatic stretches. This initiative is expected not only to provide unparalleled travel experiences for both domestic and international visitors but also to deliver a significant boost to the local economy.
