Student Body Vows ‘Clean Illegal Immigrants Drive-Out Mission’ in Tripura

Agartala: The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), a prominent student organisation affiliated with the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), today announced its imminent launch of a “Clean Illegal Immigrants Drive-Out Mission.” This assertive move comes as the TSF ramps up pressure on the Tripura government to act decisively on a recent directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) concerning the identification and deportation of undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants.

In a press statement issued by TSF General Secretary Hamalu Jamatia and President Samrat Debbarma, the student body voiced profound concern over the MHA’s notification, reportedly issued on May 19th. The TSF highlighted that this directive explicitly mandates all state administrations, including Tripura’s, to identify and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh within a stringent 30-day timeframe.

The TSF leaders impressed upon the Tripura government the critical need to approach this matter with utmost seriousness. They cited continuous reports from various parts of the state indicating a steady ingress and establishment of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, with numerous arrests already made by local authorities. Despite these efforts, the TSF lamented, the issue continues to worsen.

Credible intelligence reaching the TSF points to the settlement of illegal immigrants across multiple districts, including Gomati, Dhalai, Sepahijala, South Tripura, West Tripura, and North Tripura. The student body warned that such widespread, unauthorised settlements gravely jeopardise the demographic equilibrium, land rights, cultural heritage, and overall security of Tripura’s indigenous population. The TSF unequivocally demanded prompt and rigorous implementation of the MHA’s directive, urging the state administration to undertake decisive action in identifying, verifying, and deporting all illegal migrants without delay. As a preparatory measure, the Twipra Students’ Federation confirmed their upcoming “Clean Illegal Immigrants Drive-Out Mission” across the affected regions.

The TSF clarified that their mission would adhere to peaceful and democratic principles, bolstered by the backing of local communities. The organisation further appealed to all segments of society – including students, youth, civil society groups, and concerned citizens – to unite and vocalise their opposition to the unchecked influx. The TSF underscored that this is not merely a political or administrative concern, but fundamentally a matter of survival for Tripura’s indigenous inhabitants and their progeny.
