Family of Missing Honeymoon Couple Seeks CBI Inquiry Amid Concerns Over Investigation
Shillong: The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, a tourist from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into his death and the disappearance of his wife, Sonam. Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge at the Weight Sawdong tourist falls in Cherapunji, while Sonam remains missing.
Raja’s brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, expressed dismay over the current investigation, stating that the Meghalaya police may not bring justice to his brother. “We want the PM and Chief Minister to extend support to us and a CBI investigation should be done into the matter,” he said, adding that it could bring justice to Raja and make finding Sonam easier.
The couple, who got married on May 11, went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. They were last seen on May 23, and Raja’s body was found on June 2. The search operation to trace Sonam continues.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has expressed grief over the incident and assured the family that all necessary steps would be taken to probe and arrest those behind the incident. “We will take all the necessary steps to probe and to arrest those behind this incident,” CM Sangma said, extending his condolences to the family.
The family had their last conversation with the couple on the afternoon of May 23, and their phone went switched off by the evening of the same day. The investigation is ongoing, with the family seeking a CBI inquiry to ensure justice for Raja and to locate Sonam.
