Wife of Deceased Honeymooner Surrenders in Meghalaya Murder Case

Shillong: Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of Raja Raghuvanshi who was found dead in a gorge at Meghalaya’s Wei Sawdong area, has surrendered after being missing for a fortnight. The Meghalaya police have arrested three assailants from Madhya Pradesh in connection with the case, while a fourth suspect remains at large.

The controversy surrounding the disappearance of the Indore couple, who were honeymooning in Meghalaya, had put immense pressure on the authorities to solve the case. The family of the couple had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order a CBI probe, while the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh had appealed to Home Minister Amit Shah for the same.

Following Sonam’s surrender, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma praised the state police for achieving a breakthrough in the case within seven days. The couple went missing on May 23, hours after checking out of a homestay at Nongriat village in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district. Raja’s body was found on June 2 in a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area, approximately 20 kilometres away from the homestay.

The Meghalaya police are continuing their investigation, with the arrested suspects being questioned about their involvement in the crime. The authorities are working to uncover the circumstances surrounding Raja’s death and determine the extent of Sonam’s involvement.
