Assam Achieves Full Paddy Procurement Target for 2024-25

Guwahati: Assam has made history by successfully meeting its full paddy procurement target for the year 2024-25, announced Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This milestone marks the first time the state has achieved its entire target, showcasing significant progress in Assam’s agricultural sector. As of June 8, 2025, the state procured 5,85,012.75 metric tonnes of paddy, slightly exceeding the target of 5,85,500 metric tonnes.

This achievement highlights the effectiveness of the state government’s agricultural policies and procurement strategies. The successful procurement is attributed to the collaborative efforts of the state administration, farmers, and agricultural bodies. Initiatives aimed at optimizing procurement processes and supporting farmers have contributed to this unprecedented achievement.

Reaching the full procurement target signifies a new chapter in Assam’s growth story, expected to positively impact the state’s economy and boost farmers’ confidence in government policies. With agriculture being a key economic driver, this accomplishment underscores the sector’s potential for growth and development.

Although the procurement window remains open until June 30, 2025, officials are confident that the final tally will not only meet but potentially exceed the initial target. Efforts are underway to ensure every last tonne of paddy is accounted for, setting a higher benchmark for subsequent years and establishing a solid foundation for continued agricultural prosperity in Assam.

The Government of Assam has fixed Rs. 2,183 per quintal of paddy as the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for this year, a notable increase from Rs. 2,040 per quintal offered during the KMS 2022-23. This move aims to support farmers and encourage them to sell their paddy directly to government-operated procurement centers.
