Manipur Security Forces Crack Down on Insurgent Activities
Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have intensified their efforts to combat extortion networks and insurgent activities, conducting intelligence-based combing and cordon-and-search operations across the state. These operations have yielded significant results, with multiple arrests and substantial recoveries made in both hill and valley districts.
On June 7, two active cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) were apprehended in Leishangthem Bazar, Thoubal district. The arrested individuals, Leishangthem Amujao Singh and Elangbam Umarani Devi, were allegedly involved in extortion activities, including issuing monetary demands and threats. A mobile phone with a SIM card and an Aadhaar card were recovered from them. In a separate operation on June 6, another KCP (PWG) cadre, Wahengbam Naoton Meitei alias Ngachomi, was arrested in the Sawombung Wairi area, Imphal East district, for threatening civilians over non-compliance with unauthorized ‘moral policing’ orders.
Extensive area domination exercises were conducted in vulnerable regions, resulting in substantial recoveries. On June 7, a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from Kadangband Part-I, Imphal West district, including two pistols, two magazines, and four rounds of ammunition. A major arms haul was also made from Itham Uyok Hill, Imphal East district, comprising a .303 rifle, mortars, heavy-calibre launchers, and other warlike stores. Additionally, security forces recovered country-made rifles, radio sets, and bulletproof jacket covers in Dampi Hills, Churachandpur district.
The security forces have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region through sustained counter-insurgency operations. These efforts aim to disrupt and dismantle insurgent networks, ensuring the safety and well-being of civilians in Manipur.
