Body of Missing Army Personnel Recovered After Landslide in North Sikkim’s Chaten

Mangan, Sikkim: In a tragic development, the body of an Army personnel who went missing following a massive landslide in North Sikkim has been recovered, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Sainuddhin PK, one of the six soldiers reported missing after the June 1 landslide struck a military camp at Chaten in Mangan district.

According to Mangan Superintendent of Police Sonam Detchu Bhutia, search and rescue operations are still underway to locate the remaining missing personnel. The incident had earlier claimed the lives of three Army soldiers and left four others injured.

The landslide was triggered by relentless heavy rainfall that has battered North Sikkim over the past several days, causing widespread disruption. Road and telecommunication networks remain affected, hampering connectivity and mobility across the region.

Earlier this week, nearly 2,000 tourists stranded in Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang towns due to the inclement weather were successfully evacuated by both road and air as part of coordinated rescue efforts by civil and military authorities.
