Meghalaya Police Crack Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case, Key Accused Arrested Across Multiple States

Shillong: The East Khasi Hills Police have reported major progress in the high-profile murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was found in a gorge near Wei Sawdong in Meghalaya. Multiple arrests have been made across various states, with the investigation now pointing toward a well-orchestrated crime involving contract killers and Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that the first breakthrough came with the arrest of 19-year-old Akash Rajput from Lalitpur. This was followed by the arrests of 22-year-old Vishal Singh Chauhan and 21-year-old Raj Singh Kushwaha, both from Indore. Another accused was taken into custody from Sagar district, while a fifth suspect has been detained at Nandgarh police station.

Sonam Raghuvanshi, who had been missing since the day of the incident, was traced and detained from Ghazipur on Sunday. Investigators believe she played an active role in the crime, which occurred on May 23. Police said the accused fled Shillong soon after committing the act.

Initially treated as a missing person’s case, the matter took a grim turn when Raja’s body was recovered on June 2. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was promptly formed, which in just seven days, managed to gather crucial evidence and zero in on the suspects.

Preliminary findings suggest that Raj Singh Kushwaha carried out the killing, allegedly in collaboration with Sonam. SP Syiem stated that all accused had gone underground until intensified police efforts forced them out of hiding, leading to Sonam’s reappearance.

With several arrests already made, authorities believe the motive and sequence of events behind Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder will soon be fully established as the investigation continues.
