Gaurav Gogoi Tells CM Sarma to Apologise by September 10
Guwahati: Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has given a deadline of September 10 to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to present evidence of his alleged links with the Pakistani spy agency ISI. Sarma had claimed that Gogoi and his British wife have close ties with Pakistan and promised to reveal documentary evidence by September 10.
Gogoi, who was visiting the Assam Assembly for the first time as the state Congress chief, responded to Sarma’s remarks, saying, “He will have to apologise to the people on September 10. If he says something, we will respond on September 11.” Gogoi added that the Congress has a role to play in maintaining peace in Assam.
Gogoi also anticipated a smear campaign by the BJP IT cell, saying, “Till next year’s Assembly election, a lot of information about my family will be published on social media, especially by the BJP IT cell.” He expressed confidence that the people will decide whether to vote on personal issues or the Congress’s ability to address real issues affecting the public.
When asked about Sarma’s apparent reference to his family inside the Assembly, Gogoi said, “Politics will continue inside and outside the Assembly. We will also answer inside and outside the Assembly.” Gogoi’s remarks come amid heightened tensions between the Congress and the BJP in Assam.
