Two More Bodies Recovered from Sikkim Landslide Site

Sikkim: Authorities have recovered two more bodies from the landslide site at Chaten in North Sikkim, bringing the total number of recovered bodies to three. The bodies, identified as a male and a female, are yet to be identified, according to Mangan Superintendent of Police, Sonam Detchu Bhutia.

The recovery was made on June 10, as part of the ongoing search operation to locate six missing persons in the landslide that occurred on June 1. Earlier, the rescuers had recovered the body of an Army man, Sainudheen PK. The search operation is being led by the Army in coordination with local authorities and disaster response teams.

Despite challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions, the search operation continues to find out if there are more missing persons. The landslide had also resulted in the deaths of three army personnel, with four others injured.

North Sikkim has been severely affected by multiple landslides triggered by heavy rain, disrupting road and telecommunication connectivity. The region had also seen around 2,000 tourists stranded in Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang towns before they were evacuated by road and air in rescue operations earlier this week.
