Sohra Murder Case: Police to Reconstruct Crime Scene with Accused Wife
Shillong: The Meghalaya Police’s special investigation team (SIT), currently immersed in “Operation Honeymoon”, is set to meticulously reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra, a key development in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. This crucial step will take place in the presence of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the victim’s wife and one of the five individuals arrested in connection with the case.
Sonam, who arrived in Shillong late last night, was immediately taken for a medical examination at Ganesh Das Hospital. She is slated to be produced before a local court later today, where the SIT will formally seek her police custody to facilitate a thorough investigation. Police sources indicated a particular interest in ascertaining her potential pregnancy during the medical checks.
The four other co-accused, apprehended from various locations in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, are expected to reach Shillong imminently. Upon their arrival, they too will be presented before the local court, with the SIT anticipated to seek their police remand to piece together the intricate details of the conspiracy and murder. The SIT has already secured a six-day remand for the accused arrested from Indore and a three-day remand for one individual from Ghazipur.
“The SIT team that brought Sonam arrived shortly before midnight. She was taken to a hospital here to ascertain whether she was pregnant or not. She will be produced before a court here,” a senior police officer confirmed. East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem revealed that as part of “Operation Honeymoon”, the Meghalaya Police have diligently collected crucial evidence from the residences and frequented spots of the accused in both Indore and Ghazipur, building a robust case against them.
Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam, were reported missing on May 23 while on a vacation in Meghalaya’s picturesque Sohra area. The discovery of his body in a gorge on June 2 triggered a widespread investigation, culminating in the arrests of Sonam and her alleged accomplices from Indore and Ghazipur for their suspected involvement in conspiring and executing the murder.
