Assam: Jitendra Prasad Takes Helm as BRO Eastern Sector ADG Amidst High Hopes

Guwahati: Engineer Jitendra Prasad, a veteran of over three decades in constructing vital infrastructure across India’s most challenging landscapes, officially took charge as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) Eastern Sector on June 10. The formal handover ceremony occurred at the BRO Eastern Sector headquarters in Lokhra, Guwahati, marking a significant transition in the region’s strategic infrastructure development.

Prasad steps into the shoes of Harendra Kumar, who has been reassigned to the BRO’s main headquarters in New Delhi. Before this crucial appointment, Prasad served as the Deputy Director General at the BRO headquarters, where he consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership in overseeing critical projects under the Ministry of Defence’s purview.

A distinguished 1990-batch officer of the Border Roads Engineering Service (BRES), Prasad’s elevation to this pivotal role is a testament to his extensive seniority, unparalleled technical prowess, and a proven track record in spearheading strategic infrastructure initiatives. His career is replete with key contributions to the construction of roads, tunnels, and bridges in formidable terrains, including Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim – regions undeniably crucial for both national security and vital connectivity.

His exemplary service has been recognised with the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), a prestigious honour bestowed by the President of India, acknowledging his outstanding excellence and unwavering dedication to duty.

Immediately after assuming his new responsibilities, Prasad convened a high-level review meeting with engineers and officials stationed at the Eastern Sector headquarters. During this crucial interaction, he underscored the paramount importance of the timely completion of all ongoing projects, urging the entire workforce to uphold rigorous standards of quality and discipline in their work.

An alumnus of KNIT Sultanpur, where he earned his B.Tech in Civil Engineering, Prasad further augmented his expertise with a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from IIT-BHU, Varanasi. His extensive experience includes significant involvement in landmark projects such as the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh and the ongoing Shinkun La Tunnel in Manali, showcasing his versatile engineering acumen.

From 2019 to 2021, he served as the Chief Engineer of the Udayak Project in Doomdooma, Assam, and subsequently, from 2021 to 2023, he adeptly led the Yojak Project in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. In 2021, he successfully completed a prestigious course at the National Defence College (NDC), further enriching his strategic understanding. Additionally, he has undertaken insightful infrastructure study visits to countries such as Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka, gaining valuable perspectives on global development models.
