Arunachal: Two IRBn Personnel Suspended After NDPS Arrest in Siang

Itanagar: In a swift and stern move, the 2nd India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) has suspended two of its personnel following their arrest under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Assistant Sub-Inspector (SG) Jowkhong Singhpho and Constable Chow Silasha Khen were nabbed by police in Boleng, Siang district, on June 12. Their arrests are linked to Boleng Police Station Case No. 19/25, sending ripples through the force.

Commandant Swati Singh of the 2nd IRBn, Diyun, issued the suspension order with immediate effect, invoking Rule 20(3)(a) of the Arunachal Pradesh Police (Discipline & Appeal) Amendment Rules, 2005. The duo faces serious charges under Sections 21(b), 28, and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, underscoring the gravity of the alleged offences.

While under suspension, both officers are confined to the 2nd IRBn headquarters in Diyun. They are expressly forbidden from leaving the premises without prior written permission, a clear signal of the strict measures now in place. They will, however, be eligible for a subsistence allowance in accordance with existing rules and are mandated to report back to headquarters without delay upon their release on bail or parole.

All pertinent documents, including the First Information Report (FIR) and medical reports, are currently being processed to initiate departmental proceedings against the suspended personnel. The battalion has firmly reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding strict discipline and adopting a zero-tolerance stance against any illegal activities by its members, especially when it concerns narcotics, highlighting its dedication to maintaining integrity within its ranks.
