Assam Government Reshuffles Senior Police Officers to Strengthen Regional Policing

Guwahati: In a move aimed at bolstering law enforcement effectiveness across Assam, the state government has announced a reshuffle of senior police officers, according to an official notification dated June 13, 2025.

The transfers involve key leadership positions in Hailakandi, Dhubri, and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), reflecting a broader strategy to improve administrative efficiency and enhance public safety.

Amitava Sinha, who previously served as Senior Superintendent of Police (Organized Crime) with CID, Assam, has been appointed as the new Senior Superintendent of Police in Hailakandi. He takes over the post from Leena Doley, who has been transferred to Dhubri in the same capacity. The change is believed to be part of a strategic alignment to bring experienced leadership to sensitive districts.

Leena Doley, known for her tenure in Hailakandi, will now assume charge in Dhubri. Her appointment follows the transfer of Navin Singh, the former Dhubri SP, who has been posted to CID as the new SSP (Organized Crime), filling the vacancy left by Sinha. Singh’s move to the CID places him at the forefront of the state’s efforts to combat complex and organized criminal activity.

The reshuffle, affecting three critical postings, is seen as part of the Assam government’s ongoing efforts to revitalize police leadership across districts and specialized units. Officials suggest that these changes are designed to ensure that the state police remains adaptive, responsive, and capable of addressing emerging law and order challenges with renewed vigor.
