66-Year-Old Thane Businessman Rescued from Nagaland After Kidnapping Over Fake Bamboo Deal; Three Arrested
Kohima: In a dramatic cross-state rescue, Mumbai Police have successfully freed a 66-year-old businessman from Badlapur, Thane district, who was allegedly kidnapped in Nagaland under the pretext of a fraudulent land and bamboo deal. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the abduction, which involved threats, assault, and a ransom demand of ₹1.5 crore.
According to officials, the businessman had been lured to Dimapur with the promise of a high-value land and bamboo transaction. However, upon his arrival, the situation quickly turned violent. The victim was allegedly assaulted and held captive by the accused, who threatened to kill him unless he paid the massive sum.
The ordeal came to light when the businessman’s son filed a complaint at Parksite Police Station on June 7, triggering an immediate response. A case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Ghatkopar unit of the Mumbai Crime Branch launched a parallel investigation.
Acting swiftly, a Crime Branch team was dispatched to Nagaland. In a coordinated effort, they managed to locate the victim, secure his release, and apprehend the three suspects involved in the kidnapping. The accused have since been remanded to police custody until June 16, as the investigation continues.
The case has raised serious concerns over the increasing use of fake business ventures to lure unsuspecting victims and underscores the importance of vigilance in high-value transactions. Police are now probing whether the arrested individuals are part of a larger interstate racket targeting businessmen across regions.
