Barpeta – Badminton enthusiasts and sports patrons in Barpeta now have a dedicated platform to nurture the shuttlecock sport, with the formal establishment of the Barpeta District Badminton Association. The foundational meeting, held at the Barpeta Press Club, brought together a diverse group of district sports organisers, seasoned players, and local residents, all committed to elevating badminton’s stature in the region.
The general meeting, steered by the experienced Kamal Chandra Das, saw the presence of notable personalities including veteran badminton player Rabindra Nath Das and BJP President Mahendra Das. Hillol Jyoti Talukdar elaborated on the association’s core objective: to propel badminton forward in Barpeta and ensure access to modern sporting amenities, particularly highlighting the newly constructed indoor stadium at Ramrai as a significant step in this direction.
Mahendra Das, in his address, underscored the crucial role sports play in instilling discipline and promoting healthy lifestyles among children. He commended the state government’s endeavours, such as ‘Khel Maharan,’ designed to bolster sports at the grassroots. He passionately articulated, “Discipline through sports helps children become responsible, healthy, and well-rounded individuals. In today’s era, when technology dominates our routines, we must foster a strong sports culture alongside.”
The new association has elected a robust team to spearhead its initiatives. Anil Kumar Das will serve as President, with Kamal Chandra Das taking on the role of Working President. Hillol Jyoti Talukdar has been appointed as the General Secretary, Manoj Kumar Bayan as the Senior Vice President, and Biplab Kumar Das as the Treasurer. These key appointments are expected to provide strong leadership and direction to the association.
Further strengthening its operational framework, an advisory board has also been constituted. This board comprises influential local officials, including the Barpeta District Commissioner and the Senior Superintendent of Police, alongside respected sports figures and other prominent community leaders. Their collective wisdom and support are anticipated to be invaluable for the association’s ventures.
To ensure comprehensive functionality, several other officials have been appointed to various vital roles, including Vice Presidents, Joint Secretaries, and Assistant Secretaries. This broad allocation of responsibilities aims to facilitate the smooth and effective operation of the association.
The newly minted Barpeta District Badminton Association is poised to be a game-changer, inspiring future generations and significantly contributing to the development of essential sports infrastructure in Barpeta. The palpable commitment from its executive members signals a concerted and enthusiastic drive to take badminton in the region to unprecedented heights.
Before delving into the day’s agenda, attendees observed a solemn moment of silence, paying respects to the victims of the recent Ahmedabad plane tragedy and honouring the memory of Amaljit Das, a promising young sportsman and organiser from Barpeta, whose contributions were fondly remembered.
