BJP Meghalaya Unveils New State Leadership Ahead of 2028 Polls

Shillong: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya has announced its fresh slate of state office bearers for the 2025-2028 term, a strategic move as the party gears up for the 2028 state assembly elections. The appointments, greenlit by BJP National President JP Nadda, were formally unveiled by Meghalaya BJP president Rikman G Momin at a press conference held at the State BJP headquarters in Shillong.

The newly constituted team has been entrusted with the crucial task of fortifying the party’s presence at the grassroots level. The state unit has articulated that this team will be instrumental in propagating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inclusive mantra of ‘Sab ka Saath, Sab ka Vikaas, Sab ka Viswaas’ – signifying ‘together with everyone, development for everyone, and trusted by everyone’. This initiative is poised to enhance the party’s outreach and engagement across the diverse regions of the state.

Among the prominent appointments, Khrawboklang Basaiawmoit (Shillong), Bernard N Marak (Tura City), Lakhon Biam (West Jaintia Hills), Dr (Smti) Bernadette Lyngdoh (Shillong), Er Bipen Pradhan (Shillong), and Anil Hajong (Tura) have been designated as State Vice Presidents. These leaders are anticipated to play a pivotal role in mobilising support and shoring up the party’s organisational framework in their respective areas.

Er Wankitbok Pohshna from Shillong and Amitava Saha from West Garo Hills have been named State General Secretaries. Their responsibilities will encompass overseeing the party’s operational blueprints and ensuring seamless communication within the party hierarchy.

The team further comprises Anzie Ellicia A Sangma (Tura), Belbora Wankhar (East Khasi Hills), Daniella L Nonglait (Shillong), Sukhi Pariat (Shillong), Commanderful Sana (East Jaintia Hills), and Wilber Danngo Marak (Tura) as State Secretaries. These individuals are tasked with providing crucial support to the Vice Presidents and General Secretaries in the execution of the party’s strategies.

In terms of financial stewardship, Sarwan Jhunjhunwala from Shillong has been appointed State Treasurer, with Ashok Singhania taking on the role of State Joint-Treasurer. These positions are vital for managing the financial facets of the party’s activities, ensuring judicious and transparent allocation of resources.

The party’s communication arsenal has also been bolstered with key appointments: Sabyasachi Ghose as Media Convener, Mariahom Kharkrang as Chief Spokesperson, and Sarad Bawri as IT Convener. Their mandate includes managing public relations, media engagements, and digital outreach – all critical for shaping the party’s public perception. Additionally, Fredee Aaron Kahit has been appointed as Social Media Convener, Dipika Dey as office secretary, and Deeya Singh Rathore as State Cells Convener, further strengthening the party’s communication endeavours.

The BJP in Meghalaya expressed strong optimism that this revamped team will significantly boost its vote share and seat count in the forthcoming elections. The formation of this cohesive unit is perceived as a strategic manoeuvre to enhance the party’s image and operational efficacy within the state, underscoring a concerted push to solidify its political standing well in advance of the 2028 electoral contest.
