Massive Morphine Haul on Avadh Assam Express: Smuggler Nabbed in Late-Night Operation
Guwahati: In a significant triumph against drug trafficking, the Rangiya Railway Police executed a covert late-night operation on the Down Avadh Assam Express near Namnimua, leading to the arrest of an individual found with 2.5 kilograms of morphine, estimated to be worth a staggering Rs 1.25 crore in the illicit market.
The dramatic seizure unfolded following a confidential tip-off received by law enforcement. The police swiftly initiated a targeted search on the moving train, successfully apprehending the accused, identified as Rabiranjan Kumar, a resident of Bihar’s Madhubani district. Kumar was allegedly attempting to smuggle the highly potent narcotic from Dimapur, Nagaland, a known transit point for illegal substances, to Bihar.
Officials confirmed that the seized morphine is a strictly controlled narcotic, and its unauthorised possession carries severe criminal penalties under Indian law. This incident underscores a concerning escalation in drug trafficking activities utilising the extensive railway network across Northeast India.
The arrested individual is presently undergoing intense interrogation as authorities work to uncover more details regarding the origins of the contraband, its intended final destination, and the broader criminal network facilitating this smuggling operation. Investigators strongly suspect the involvement of a larger interstate syndicate, and the probe is ongoing with full vigour.
In the wake of this major bust, the Rangiya Railway Police have significantly bolstered their surveillance and vigilance across all trains and railway stations throughout the region, aiming to pre-empt and thwart any further attempts at similar illicit smuggling activities.
