Assam: Wild Elephant Wreaks Havoc in Samaguri, Residents Demand Action

Samaguri, Assam – In a terrifying incident that unfolded under the cloak of night on June 17, a wild elephant embarked on a destructive rampage through the sleeping village of Samaguri, leaving a trail of demolished homes and shattered belongings in its wake. Fortunately, all residents managed to escape unharmed, though their properties bore the brunt of the jumbo’s fury.

The marauding tusker reportedly entered the residential area around the stroke of midnight, catching villagers completely unawares. Eyewitness accounts describe the elephant tearing through walls and rooftops with immense force, turning homes into rubble. One family, still reeling from the shock, reported the complete obliteration of their newly installed power inverter, adding to their significant losses. “We were sound asleep when suddenly we heard these horrendous crashing sounds,” recounted a resident, visibly shaken. “By the time we scrambled out, a good portion of our house was already in ruins.”

While the community breathes a collective sigh of relief that no human lives were lost or injuries sustained, anger and frustration are palpable among the villagers. They allege a significant delay in the Forest Department’s response, despite frantic distress calls made as the destruction unfolded. This perceived inaction has ignited renewed demands from the community for prompt intervention protocols and robust long-term preventive measures to address the escalating human-elephant conflict that has become a recurring nightmare in the region.
