In a significant policy development, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has proposed a new set of regulations titled “Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions) Rules, 2025,” aimed at preventing disasters caused by high-rise obstructions and encroachments near airports.
Released on June 18, the draft rules empower aviation authorities to identify and demolish buildings, trees, and other structures that violate height norms in aerodrome zones. Officials have stressed that the proposed law is a proactive safety measure to address flight path risks and avert future tragedies.
The draft rules are expected to be enforced following their notification in the Official Gazette, forming part of a broader national strategy to ensure strict compliance with airspace safety standards.
