Assam: Boat Carrying Schoolchildren Capsizes in Brahmaputra Near Nalbari, Several Feared Missing

Barpeta: A boat carrying school students capsized in the Brahmaputra River near Nalbari on Thursday morning, triggering a massive rescue and search operation.

The boat, which was ferrying passengers from Peradhara ferry ghat to Larkuchi, overturned mid-journey. Among those on board were multiple schoolchildren, several of whom are feared missing.

Following the incident, local residents, Barpeta district police, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swiftly mobilised to begin rescue operations. Divers and emergency personnel were deployed as part of a coordinated effort to locate and save the missing.

Though the exact number of missing individuals has not yet been confirmed, early reports indicate that several students are still unaccounted for. Authorities have assured that all necessary resources are being deployed to intensify the search.

The situation remains tense as families and locals gather at the riverbank awaiting news. Updates are expected as the rescue operation progresses.
