Farmer Injured in Suspected Militant Attack in Manipur’s Bishnupur District
Imphal: A farmer sustained injuries in a suspected militant attack while working in a paddy field in Phubala, located in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, on Thursday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 3:00 pm, has reignited concerns over persistent ethnic tensions in the region.
Local sources reported that gunshots, believed to have been fired by suspected Kuki militants from nearby hill areas, targeted farmers engaged in agricultural activities. One of the farmers was struck and promptly rushed to the district hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
A video of the injured man receiving medical assistance has circulated on social media platforms, drawing widespread public concern and highlighting the fragile security situation in the area.
While authorities have not yet released an official statement, security personnel are said to be assessing the incident on the ground. The attack comes amid ongoing conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities, which has severely disrupted civilian life, especially in rural and agricultural zones, over the past year.
