Assam: Ten Youths Abandon Extremist Path, Surrender to Police in Karbi Anglong

Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough for peace and stability in the region, ten young individuals, who were reportedly in the nascent stages of forming a new extremist outfit, have surrendered to the Assam Police in Karbi Anglong district. The group, which intended to style itself as DHD(U), laid down a cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK rifle, three pistols, one SB gun, one grenade, and various rounds of ammunition.

This success has been attributed to a combination of intelligence-based operations and diligent outreach efforts by the Karbi Anglong Police. The Assam Police, taking to microblogging platform X, highlighted the incident as a testament to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s vision for peace and progress in the state. They affirmed their unwavering commitment to ensuring security and fostering development across Assam.

Director General of Police, Harmeet Singh, also lauded the achievement on social media, reiterating the police force’s core motto: “Ensuring the peace, is our motto!” The voluntary surrender of these youths marks a positive step in ongoing efforts to bring misguided individuals back into the mainstream and reinforce the peace initiatives in Assam.
