Mising Student Body Demands Justice for Slain Labourer, Blockades Assam-Arunachal Border

Guwahati: The tranquil morning in Jonai, Assam’s Dhemaji district, was disrupted today as the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), the premier student body of the Mising community and launched a protest blockade. Their demand is resolute: justice for the brutal killing of Prabash Doley, a 22-year-old daily wage labourer from the Mising tribe, who met a tragic end in Chimpu, Arunachal Pradesh.

The agitation, which commenced at 6 AM from Dekapam village, Prabash Doley’s native place, marks the first phase of what the TMPK warns will be a broader statewide movement. Redeep Jack Doley, External Affairs Secretary for the TMPK, articulated the organisation’s demands clearly: life imprisonment for the accused and adequate compensation for Doley’s grieving family.

Further amplifying their plea, the union has earnestly called upon Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu to personally intervene in the matter. They advocate for the case to be transferred to Assam’s Dhemaji district, believing it will ensure a fair and transparent investigation.

“We will be submitting a memorandum to CM Khandu. His continued silence, along with that of Arunachal’s civil societies and student bodies, is deeply disappointing,” Redeep conveyed to NewsFy, while also making a heartfelt appeal to residents on both sides of the border to uphold peace and harmony.

Police reports shed light on the grim incident. Prabash Doley, a resident of Misamora village in Dhemaji, was employed at a construction site adjacent to a Bharat Petroleum outlet in Chimpu. On the night of June 18, he was allegedly set upon with a sharp weapon by Tai John (26), the proprietor of a nearby car wash. The altercation reportedly stemmed from noise emanating from the ongoing construction work.

Doley was subsequently found gravely injured by the roadside and later pronounced dead. His body was sent for post-mortem examination at TRIHMS, Naharlagun. The Capital police have since apprehended the accused, who remains in custody.

The TMPK has issued a stern warning: if their demands are not met and justice for Prabash Doley is delayed, they will intensify their agitation.
