Assam: Displaced Villagers Block NH 315 in Silent Protest, Demand Rehabilitation

Jagun: Nearly fifty men and women, all displaced residents, staged a powerful silent protest today, blocking National Highway 315 near the Jagun Police Outpost. Their unwavering demand: justice and the long-promised rehabilitation that has eluded them for nearly two years.

Braving harsh weather, the protestors, primarily evicted from *Namphai Tapu*, sat resolutely on the highway in a peaceful demonstration. Their silence, devoid of slogans or speeches, spoke volumes, delivering a potent message to the authorities.

These individuals, who once sustained their families through agriculture in Namphai Tapu, were removed to facilitate the resettlement of a tribal community from Laika in a government-backed relocation drive.

During the eviction, government officials and local representatives had reportedly offered verbal assurances of proper rehabilitation. Yet, almost two years on, these promises remain unfulfilled, leaving the families in limbo.

“We were told we wouldn’t be left abandoned, but no help ever came. We’re still struggling without land or livelihood,” shared a protestor, encapsulating the collective despair.

Driven by prolonged silence and administrative inaction, the affected families resorted to blocking the highway as a desperate measure to highlight their dire situation.

The blockade significantly disrupted vehicular movement on the vital route, signalling growing public discontent over unresolved displacement issues. As of reporting, no official response had been issued by the administration.
