Spearheaded by the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam Karbi Anglong District Committee (AASAA-KADC), Adivasi Jani Sakti Sangati, and other organisations, the protest amplified fervent calls for the death penalty for the accused, Ranjit Basumatary, also known as Babu. This tragic incident has ignited a firestorm of outrage, intensifying the community’s demand for swift and severe justice.

The heinous crime unfolded after Ayushi, hailing from Amrajan under Bokajan Police Station, was reported missing on June 22, 2025. A massive road procession, commencing from the AASAA-KADC office, wound its way through the streets, culminating at Ayushi’s residence in Amrajan. Protesters from all walks of life, carrying banners and placards, reinforced their unwavering solidarity with Ayushi’s family, emphatically demanding swift justice. The sheer scale and diverse turnout of this demonstration powerfully signify the depth of the community’s commitment to comprehensively addressing such grave crimes. Their overwhelming presence was not merely a show of support but a potent statement against the alarming surge of violence.

Anil Toppo, the Chief Advisor of the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam, Central Committee, addressed the gathering, passionately urging for the imposition of capital punishment on the accused. “This is a crime that shakes the very conscience of our society,” he declared. “We demand the strictest punishment to ensure justice for Ayushi and to deter such atrocities in the future.” His powerful address resonated deeply, underscoring the community’s unified call for a stringent legal response to prevent future incidents of this nature.

Responding to the immense public outcry, the Bokajan Police promptly arrested Ranjit Basumatary on June 24, 2025, and registered a case against him at the Bokajan Police Station.
