Manipur Forces Nab Two Key Insurgents in Double Blow to Militancy

Imphal, June 25, 2025: In a significant crackdown on proscribed militant outfits, Manipur Police and security forces have apprehended two active insurgents linked to the banned PREPAK (Pro) and UNLF (Ningolmacha) groups. These arrests mark a further tightening of the noose around underground networks operating within the state, as authorities intensify their efforts to restore peace and order.

The first breakthrough came with the arrest of Thoudam Johnjackson Singh, 42, also known as John or Hemjit. A resident of Liwa Road Ahongshangbam Leikai in Imphal West district, Singh was nabbed from his residence under the jurisdiction of Singjamei Police Station. Officials confirmed Singh’s active cadre status within the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro), a group that remains proscribed by the government. Upon his apprehension, authorities recovered one mobile phone with an Airtel SIM card and his Aadhaar card.

In a separate, swift operation, security forces successfully apprehended Md. Islam Khan, 29, alias Atappa, an active member of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Ningolmacha). Khan was picked up from the Lilong Hangamthabi area, falling under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district. A resident of Hayellabuk Mayai Leikai, Khan was reportedly a key player in extortion rackets, preying on individuals, businesses, and even government establishments across Thoubal district. From his possession, a mobile phone with a Jio SIM card and his Aadhaar card were seized.

Both individuals are currently in police custody and are undergoing intensive interrogation. Officials hope that their questioning will yield crucial information regarding their organizational links, operational modalities, and the broader network of their criminal activities. Authorities have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to rooting out militancy and ensuring the safety and security of the public across Manipur.
